In August 2016, 7.1 trillion gallons of water fell during the Louisiana floods. 13 lives were lost, and more 140,000 homes were destroyed. Good Through Food, a new Orlando-based organization that strives to impact the world through food-related efforts, is launching its first initiative to help. As part of the initiative called Project 001. Louisiana, from October 24-31, local restaurants are joining the mission by creating Louisiana-inspired dishes, drinks or desserts to help raise funds for those in need.

“I believe food is the greater connector—it causes cultures to cross, memories to be made and happiness manifest,” stated Major, Founder and Culinary Connector of Good Through Food. “After relying heavily on Facebook Live to obtain information and view heart-wrenching videos about the impact of the floods due to the lack of TV, I knew I was called to help, and I thought doing so through food would be amazing.”

Beginning October 24, local restaurants will sell a Louisiana-inspired dish to help raise funds for Baton Rouge Area Foundation, a Louisiana-based charity that seeks to assist South Louisiana residents which make up the majority of the 30,000 people that were displaced from their homes because of the floods, only to return to neighborhoods they couldn’t recognize. Chefs and restaurants will donate 25, 50 or 100 percent of proceeds to the charity.

Participating Restaurants such as Collette’s Clean Eats, Tapa Toro and Taverna Opa, P is for Pie and Black Rooster Taqueria are whipping up dishes ranging from Shrimp, Crab & Andouille Sausage Gumbo  and Churro Bread Pudding to what Black Rooster likes to call the NOLA PB Taco.

Guests are asked to share their dishes on Instagram using the hashtag #GoodThroughFood. For more information, visit GoodThroughFood.com
